Twas the Night Before Football

‘Twas the night before football, when all through UT
not a fan was yelling, not even the Texas Cheer Team.
The boots sat by the door with care,
in hopes that the Co-op would provide a new pair.

The Longhorns were nestled while snug in their beds
while visions of touchdowns danced in their heads,
and my friend in her burnt orange onesie and I with my Bevo pillow pet
had just settled our brains for a needed summer nap…

When out at DKR arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the stadium I flew, like a Colt McCoy pass,
when I hear from afar The Longhorn Band brass.

The moon on DKR shined bright
like the tower lit up in orange at night,
when what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but Matthew McConaughey, Coach Strong and Bevo the steer,

With Malik Jefferson so lively and quick,
I knew that surely this season could be it.
Louder than Texas Fight Old Smokey rang
while Strong shouted each players name:

On Buechele, on Warren, on Foreman, and his brother too,
on Swoopes, on Ford, and Omenihu.
To the front of the end zone, down the field to the stands,
run and run to the sound of the Texas Fight chants.

The Longhorns gathered together with horns held high
as the fireworks exploded like our Texas pride.
The Eyes of Texas filled the air,
with voices louder than any 12th man.
And for one more time the fans all cheered with might:

Hook’Em Horns to all, and to all a goodnight.
