On the eve of my 22nd birthday I am waiting for the inevitable extreme amounts of T-Swift lyrics making their way into my text messages, cards, and onto my Facebook wall. As much as I really don’t like Taylor Swift I do however quite enjoy the song 22, but our 22s look quite different. I decided to take a deeper look into the world of T-Swift as a 22 year old (or soon to be) and compare our lives and analyze the lyrics.
“It feels like the perfect night to dress up like hipsters, and make fun of our exes”
Well first off I don’t have to dress up like a hipster to make fun of my exes. I can do that no matter what I am wearing, and every night is perfect for that. The more I thought about this line the more I thought about how long this part of a night with her friends had to take. I mean she has dated EVERYONE. Did they even do anything else besides make fun of her exes? This will be something I ask her if I ever meet her. Also, her last ex is Harry Styles, and mine was… Well let’s not even go there. She wins at life for just being within 5 feet of Harry…Im just saying.
“It feels like the perfect night for breakfast at midnight, and to fall in love with strangers”
Now here is where Taylor and I are kindred spirits. Breakfast at midnight. YES. Here is where we aren’t alike. She can eat breakfast at midnight and proceed to wake up the next morning and have a nice workout with her personal trainer and have her personal chef cook her healthy and delicious meals to make up for that one bad choice. My bad choice is usually followed up with something like Taco Bell. Also, my midnight breakfast is usually Whataburger…. I’m sure Taylor and her cats enjoy a much more exquisite midnight meal together. Onto the “fall in love with strangers.” The only stranger that I love is Harry Styles… and yet again she has already dated him. Win for Taylor.
“We are happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time; its miserable and magical”
I never understood this line…So many emotions… Maybe this is why she can’t hold a relationship. Was that too harsh?
“Tonight is the night we forget about the deadlines…its time”
I usually forget about my deadlines as soon as I leave the office, but my deadlines usually involve contracts and follow up phone calls. Her deadlines however involve, which song about my recent ex boyfriend do I have to get to my producer that is going to make me billions of dollars and blow up all the music charts and lead to another grammy. “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22, everything will be alright if you keep me next to you”
Well so far I feel 40 and quite boring after this comparison. “And everything will be alright if you keep me next to you”..who is she referring to? Harry? Does she want him back? Or is this a future ex we will soon hear a song about…
“You don’t know about me, but I’ll bet you want to; everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we are 22”
I mean I agree with Taylor there. I am pretty fabulous so why wouldn’t you want to know me? Even though if I read this comparison this far I kinda don’t want to meet me now. Never Mind. Meet Taylor Swift instead; she is probably more interesting. “Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we are 22” I mean I guess…. but dancing doesn’t pay my rent…nor do I ever want it to.
“It seems like one of those nights where this place is too crowded, too many cool kids”
I feel your pain T-Swift except your places are crowded because you are worldwide phenomenon and people are usually trying to stalk you. My places are crowded because there is a football game on. “Too many cool kids” NEWS FLASH TAYLOR THAT WOULD BE YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS.
“It seems like one of those nights we ditch the whole scene and end up dreaming instead of sleeping”
If I ditched my scene I would end up driving peacefully back to my quaint one bedroom apartment, and that’s if I actually decided to leave my couch and fantasy football stats. I’m going to assume that when Taylor and her pals ditch a scene they are escorted out by bodyguards and swarmed with paparazzi and usually end up on E News the next morning. Jealous? ABSOLUTELY. And I’m going to let you finish Taylor, but you definitely have to go to sleep to dream.
“Tonight’s the night we forget about the heartbreak”
Wait a second. Didn’t this whole night start off by making fun of your exes?! You are sending mixed messages Taylor. If you are making fun of your exes you clearly didn’t forget about the heartbreak..and we also have like a thousand albums of your music to prove that. I also don’t have the vast heartbreak to forget about like she does, but anyways carry on mega star and sing away.
“It feels like one of those nights, You look like bad news, I gotta have you”
TAYLOR HAVE YOU LEARNED NOTHING?! All the guys you have dated look like bad news. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE NOW YOUR EXES. Except Harry. You messed up there.
So there you have it. Taylor Swift at 22 is fabulous and full of life. Even though my life may not be as fabulous as hers, I do however look forward to time with my amazing friends where we stay up all night jamming to this song. And I would bet my friends are way better than hers so point for Nichole.
