Nichole & The Cliff: Texas vs Iowa St.

It was a spooky, dark, and horrific night. The dark clouds rolled in over Ames, Iowa as the Longhorns made their way to the Cyclones home field in search of The Cliff. And let me tell you… they may be at the edge.

Halloween games always worry me. Away games always worry me. Let’s face it… Every game Texas plays worries me.

The day before the game Austin was hit with a horrible storm that caused the team to arrive in Iowa later than they had originally planned. I gave Charlie Strong the heads up that they should just run plays on the tarmac while they waited out the delay. And from what I watched on Saturday they clearly did not take my advice.

Let me preface this by saying, I had a feeling we would lose this game. Iowa St. is known for showing up at the most unexpected times and this Halloween night they came to life. Who knew they would dress up as the freaking Patriots while Texas resembled the Detroit Lions…the players on the bench.

We had no offense. No defense. No QB. No coaching. I don’t even think we reached the red zone once.

A night that is all about being scared came to fruition for every Texas Longhorn fan because we are living an absolute nightmare.

Tim Burton himself could not have written a more disastrous script that would result in the poor showing, or no show, of the Longhorns and whatever they like to call a “football team.”

I will refrain from ranting about how Charlie Strong is not the man for Texas because even in our darkest hour, I still believe he is. But the nightmare is continuing to grow with the potential of him leaving for Miami. What a freaking joke that would be.

I listened to the press conference on Monday and was not impressed. We got no answers. Unless you count, “We have to get things turned around. We need the team that played against OU to show up every week. I still have faith in Heard. I am going to Miami because I rather be in a program where nothing is possible than deal with a program that has become the number one joke in the NCAA.” Ok…Maybe Strong didn’t say that last part. But he did have the audacity of saying that this game was NOT embarrassing? Really? NOT EMBARRASING?

This is THE University of Texas. The school that was once the pride of Texas is now overshadowed by TCU and Baylor… BAYLOR… Remember when Baylor was like Kansas? Man those were the days.

I fear for this program like my mom fears her credit card statement when I spend an afternoon in Nordstroms. Sometimes once the destruction is done there is no return.

It seems like I have more pride for this University than these players. If only we could have a team full of Malik Jeffersons who understand what it means to wear the color burnt orange and the Longhorn logo. That logo is more than just a symbol stamped on a jersey and a helmet. That logo represents legends that will live in the hearts of Texas fans forever. That logo represents a deep pride for the only University I will ever love. That logo represents world changers.

This team needs heart and passion and clearly an understanding of what it truly means to be a Longhorn. Until that happens, we won’t win another game.

My journey to The Cliff brought me to the highest peak with the team staring over the edge.

And if we manage to lose to KANSAS next week…. Look for me on ESPN tackling the first UT player I can find. Maybe I will teach A CERTAIN DEFENSIVE PLAYER something.
