It rained. It poured. But all that matters is HOOK ‘EM HORNS.
Welcome back to Nichole and The cliff.
On this week’s search for The Cliff, my dedication to this team was truly tested with a weather forecast that predicted 100 percent, Niagara Falls drenching DKR with possible lightning. Lightning is a perfect combination with a stadium full of metal stands. Joy…
Let me remind you that Texas was 2-4. I was going to endure a torrential downpour for a 2-4 team.
On top of everything else, it was an 11 a.m. game. *Cue rant about 11 a.m. games*
11 a.m. games are the devil. It was our third straight 11 a.m. game and the fourth straight day game. I would rather watch a game at 2 a.m. than be forced to get up early on a Saturday. CAN WE PLEASE JUST BAN 11 a.m. GAMES FOREVER?!
But I sucked it up and got up at the crack of dawn, called Noah and told him to have his Ark ready, and prepared for what would inevitably be the most miserable Texas game I would ever sit through. #Dedicated am I right?
The last time it rained at a Texas game I attended, it was my very first UT game when I was in the 5th grade. I can’t say I was really looking forward to reliving that, especially if we lost.
My gameday gear included a Texas athletic shirt, my dad’s Texas pullover, a raincoat, a poncho, and rain boots. And fun fact, my rain boots are British flags. It was an interesting combo.
After a quick trip to Whataburger–shoutout to all you jalapeno cheddar biscuit lovers out there like me–Paige, my dad and me set out for a nice swim down I-35.
Lucky: having a parking pass to the game
Unlucky: that parking pass be for the baseball field lot…on the other side of I35
Because UTPD wanted to test my dedication further, umbrellas were not permitted in the stadium, meaning that nice long hike to the game would be with a raincoat alone. YAY!
We braved the storm, power walked our little hearts out and finally arrived to the Texas Exes tailgate and attempted to stay dry until game time. Surely by the time the game started the rain would let up a little.
WRONG.
Kick off looked more like a water polo match than a football game in Texas.
It rained and it poured as we watched Texas manage to control the game. Nick Rose made extra points, and we chanted, “Swoopes there it is” as we watched our back up QB remain the hero for yet another Texas game.
My father and I shouted our distaste for a certain Texas player who couldn’t block me running to a One Direction concert, nonetheless someone from the other team. How he hasn’t found the cliff yet I will never understand.
As angry as I was that the rain continued and just seemed to only get worse with each passing second, I realized why it was raining.
God was mourning Bevo with my Longhorn family as we said farewell to our beloved mascot on Saturday. The band performed a wonderful dedication to the mascot who watched Texas play in two national championships and countless wins over the years. To honor Bevo even further, his past caretakers set up this sweet memorial that had people in tears. Not me of course – it was just rain drops on my face…

After four quarters of Texas controlling the score with an excellent run offense and a defense that has finally found a way to stop the run and pressure the QB, the clocked reached 0 and Texas had won for the second week in a row. Back-to-back wins was something I didn’t think I would have the joy of experiencing this season, but I am glad that this team proved me wrong.
I may not have found The Cliff this week, but I did find a water slide.
Final score: 23 – 9 W
Check back next week as I resume my journey to the cliff as my Texas Longhorns take on the Iowa St. Cyclones for a SPOOKtacular Halloween game in the rather unpleasant state of Iowa.
