Vespaio opened its doors back in 1998 and is hands down one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. A very unique menu that will leave you ready for a chance to return. The atmosphere is an intimate feel with low lighting, but a smaller dining area that is buzzing with conversation. An excellent wine list and experienced and professional wait staff that attends to your every need that enhances your overall dining experience.

To begin I had a caesar salad. I recommend splitting this salad; it is a larger portion and this way you can enjoy the rest of your meal AND get dessert (this is a must). The salad was wonderful. In house made dressing that was light and very fresh. I am very picky about caesar salads and this one was pretty much perfection. The night I went the chef had a special menu aside in addition to the normal house menu and I decided to try the scallops with bacon mashed potatoes that was pretty much jumping off the page at me. I am pretty sure that when I went to sleep later that evening I dreamt of that heavenly dish. Buttery, full of flavor, and cooked to pure perfection; this dish had me wishing I had the stomach capacity to have a second helping. My friend had the pizza which I was also able to try (after snatching a piece off her plate) and it was also delicious. For dessert I tried the creme brûlée and if you leave the restaurant without getting this dessert you are making a HUGE mistake. Creamy with perfect texture and consistency that wasn’t overly rich or too sweet was the best way to end my night at Vespaio.

This is a great place to get together with your friends for a girls/boys night out, reminisce with family, have a celebratory dinner, or for a romantic evening at the end of a long work week. Recommended attire I would say is business casual. It is a little on the higher end of the price scale, but it is fine dining and you absolutely get what you pay for. This place is a gem in Austin on the historical street of South Congress that has all the wonderful character and charm that you would expect from a restaurant in this one of a kind city. Take my advice don’t miss out on the eating experience of a lifetime.
