Christmas Break for the College Kid

IT IS FINALLY CHRISTMAS TIME…well almost.

For College Kids Christmas break is quickly approaching after the long week of finals finally comes to an end. One of the best things about being in college is the extremely long break we get at the end of the fall semester. Once it comes to an end you finally get to return to your hometown. This is exciting because you get to see all of your old friends that also moved away and spend some much needed time with your family. It is always hard at first when you come back because you live back at home for the next few weeks and the “freedom” you had back at school seems to be gone. It kind of is, especially if you are a freshman, but it is just because your parents want to see you. To take advantage of your time off, and to do this I have a few suggestions to enjoy the break that is right around the corner, especially for you freshman.

1. SLEEP!!!! This is a must especially after those long hours of studying (or procrastinating). Catch up on rest and relax. The break will be over before you know it and you will wish you had those hours to do nothing back.

2. READ. You have several weeks to enjoy a few good books that are not school related. So grab that cup of coffee and enjoy the novel you said you would always read when you had time.

3. SPEND TIME WITH YOUR HOMETOWN FRIENDS. I always take advantage of this. My very best friends came from my hometown and a few  weeks home with them is always great. Plan lunch dates, dinner, coffee, or just relaxing nights at someone’s house so y’all get an opportunity to hang out and talk about the semester.

4. REFLECT. Take some time to reflect on the semester you just finished. What was your favorite part? Did you accomplish the goals you set in place back in August? What could you have done better? Academically what can you improve on for the spring semester? It is also good to take a look at these things so you can improve on the next semester.

5. SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY. I didn’t put this last because I thought it was the least important, quite the opposite actually. I always struggle with the balance between my friends and parents, but it is important they know you want to spend time with them. Go to the movies or to dinner or just hang out at the house and laugh. Your parents missed you while you were gone, and if you are a freshman it has been a hard few months for them so make them feel loved.

Enjoy the Holidays and all the fun and excitement it brings!!

With Love From Me To You,
